In August Neil
moved all of our
tanks, barrels
and wines from
where they were
being stored
at the RagApple
Lassie (3 miles
down the road)
into our OWN
Cellar! |
|
 |
Can you imagine
driving THIS
down the road? |
|
 |
|
Easy does it... |
|
 |
Down into the
Cellar... |
|
 |
A little farther...
(its getting
steep!) |
|
 |
...and whew,
made it! |

French Toast
made with
freshly baked
Sally Lund bread-
stuffed with goat

homemade
fig preserves... |

Neil does a
wine tasting
for a group
of very festive
Ladies
from the
Charlotte
area that came
by Limo to
celebrate
a birthday |
|
 |
I think these
are Purple Martins
Every year they
come by the 100's
in the late summer
-every morning
and evening and
perch next to
the vineyard |
|
 |
When Neil is running
the tractor or mower,
they swarm and
fly just overhead
snatching up bugs
(like seagulls to
a fishing troller!) |
|
 |
I don't know if
they are the
reason - but Neil
has not had any
need to use
pesticides
in the vineyard
for over 3 years |

Rachael York
A VERY special
farm Helper.
For her Summer
vacation... |
|
 |
...she worked
(for vegetables)
and tirelessly
pulled weeds
everyday
for 3 weeks! |
|
 |
Carmen and Isabel
Constant, steady.
and always smiling,
laughing - and working!
They have made
the Farm what it is... |
|
 |
2009 was the rainiest
Summer EVER!
It rained almost
everyday. (30+ inches from
May to September) |
|
 |
Second planting
of beans racing the
weeds for sunlight |
|
 |
Somewhere in there
are carrots! |
|
 |
The tomatoes
give up. (WAY too much rain!) |
|
 |
Newly planted Curly
Mustard |

The mustard &
Kale - just a
few weeks later

Hunting for
the squash |
|

The Peppers
still hanging
in there.
THEY have
been the stars
of the Garden
this year! |
|

Newly planted

Sugar Snap
Snow Peas
and Carrots |
|
 |
Watermelons
(I know... Its wishful
thinking to think
we'll get melons in
September?
But the first planting
was such a
disappointment.
I just had to try... |

The last
of the Fall seedlings
waiting for a

We've planted out the

The Syrah
looking sad and
raisiny.
(It ALWAYS
looks pouty -
but this year
it has REASON to!) |
|
 |
The Muscadines
on the other hand
are the happiest
easiest grapes on
the planet to grow! |
|
 |
Remember
the Diddles
when they were little?
(There are 3 hiding
in there)
|
|
 |
Here they are
at about
4 weeks
Later...
|
|
 |
...And here they
are this morning
(September 20th)
goofing around in
a little dogwood
Momma Buff
finally cut the
apron strings
and so they
have chosen to
roost together
in the pecan
trees at night. |

 |
All of the
Hens & the rooster
at breakfast
(except the 3 diddles) |

Look how big
the calves
have gotten! |

Got Bread!
(this is Kate) |
|
 |
Ever heard the
expression
"Wierder than Owl's poop?
Well, here's some...
|
|
| |
 |
The Yellow Jackets
Nest (that I discovered
with my boot...)
Can't really see
them swarming
in and out
- but there's
a mess of them
in there...
(couldn't get within
20 feet without
them coming
after me.. |
